Dr. Victoria Shoaf Appointed Interim Dean of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business

May 20, 2010

“I am delighted to announce that, upon my recommendation, the University’s Board of Trustees, at its meeting of May 7, 2011 elected Victoria Shoaf, Ph.D. as Dean of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB), effective immediately,” said Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University. “I know the entire University community joins me in congratulating Dr. Shoaf on her election as Dean and we wish her continued success in leading TCB to ever greater achievements.”

Dr. Shoaf served the College as Interim Dean during the 2010-2011 academic year. In that time, she amassed a record of significant accomplishment, including working, with Peter Tobin himself, to put together a dynamic Board of Advisors, collaborating with faculty to develop several new dual-degree programs; and fostering greater visibility for the College within AACSB, its accrediting body, and the Graduate Management Admissions Council, to which TCB has just been accepted.

“Assuming the leadership role at the Tobin College of Business is an honor and a privilege that I carry with a sense of responsibility to every student, faculty member, administrator and staff person who make my professional home one I am proud to serve and promote,” said Dean Shoaf.

After joining the Tobin College of Business as a member of the faculty in 1997, Dean Shoaf went on to serve as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Chair of Tobin’s Department of Accounting and Taxation.

Professor Shoaf holds a Ph.D. in Business (Accounting) from Baruch College of the City University of New York.  She has published in such peer-reviewed journals as the Journal of Business Ethics, the International Business and Economics Research Journal, the Journal of Applied Business Research, the Journal of Accounting and Finance Research, Bank Accounting & Finance, the Commercial Lending Review, and the Review of Business, and has also published two book chapters.  She is also an active member of the American Accounting Association, and has served on the Board (2004-2007) and as the President (2005-06) of the Northeast Region of that organization.

Prior to St. John’s, Dr. Shoaf held several accounting-leadership positions, including Vice President-Finance for Tie Rack, Inc., and Controller at Laura Ashley, Inc., and at Greeff Fabrics, Inc.  She is currently on the Board of the Queens-Brooklyn Chapter of the New York State Society of CPAs, where she served as President in 2008-09.
